SSC MTS 2024: 45,871 candidates absent on first day; more than 1,000 applications rejected using AI

NEW DELHI: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducted the first phase of Multi-Tasking non-technical staff, and havaldar CBIC and CBN examination 2024 (SSC MTS, Havaldar 2024). More than half of the candidates registered from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar left the exam on the first day, as per local reports. The commission also rejected over 1,000 duplicate applications for uploading similar photographs.

The SSC MTS and Havaldar exam 2024 is being conducted to recruit 9,583 vacancies in the department. Of the total vacancies, 6,144 MTS and 3,439 Havaldar posts will be filled. As per the schedule, the SSC MTS exam 2024 will be administered from September 20 to November 14.

On the first day of SSC MTS, several students expressed disappointment due to alleged last-minute exam centre change. “Exam centre change kr dia ssc n mts k exam k liye pehle noida tha or ab surat de diya or maine ne region m apply kia tha (Exam centre has been changed for SSC MTS. I was allotted Noida initially and now it has been changed to Surat despite selecting the correct region),” an applicant said on X.

Another applicant belonging to Rohtak flagged the same issue. Tagging the commission, the candidate said: “I don’t have money to travel to the allotted exam centre.”

A total of 57,44,713 applicants registered for the SSC MTS and Havaldar Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBIC and CBN) exam this year. Of this 17,93,680 candidates registered from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar under the SSC central zone, as per the Live Hindustan report.

The central region applicants constitute 31.22% of the total. As per the report, more than half of the 82,793 candidates from both the states, ie, 45,871 (44.60%), left the exam. A total of 24,131 from UP and 12,791 from Bihar did not appear on the first day of the exam, it added.

SSC uses AI to reject applications

The SSC regional offices rejected several duplicate applications submitted by candidates. The SSC northern region in a recent notification stated: “While scrutinizing applications of MTS Exam 2024, it has been found that similar photograph have been uploaded by different candidates while submitting their application. All such applications have been identified using Artificial Intelligence.” A total of 220 suspected cases have been recorded and the candidature has been cancelled for further action.

A total 598 such cases have been found in SSC - Central Region and 69 cases in southern region. The Karnataka, Kerala Region, however, did not specify the number of cases registered. As per reports, 1,300 applications have been rejected so far.

The SSC MTS admit card 2024 has been made available on the official website, ssc.gov.in. Applicants will also be able to download the SSC MTS, Havaldar admit card from regional websites as well.
