The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will offer Aadhaar-authentication as an optional facility at key stages of the recruitment exams. Aadhaar-based authentication will be implemented in addition to the traditional methods such as photograph and biometric verification to ensure fairness and to prevent impersonation.

The commission said that this policy will offer a more robust mechanism that enhances convenience for genuine candidates.

The optional facility will include — Aadhaar OTP-based authentication at the time of One Time Registration (OTR); Aadhaar face authentication during registration; Aadhaar fingerprint or iris-based biometric authentication at the time of appearing in exam; Aadhaar authentication during physical efficiency or standard tests or medical examinations; and during document verification and final joining.

It said that those candidates who opt for Aadhaar authentication will have to just complete fewer procedural checks. Additionally, candidates do not have to fear disqualification due to discrepancies in photograph and signature uploaded on the portal, it said. “They will also be allowed entry to the examination venue closer to the gate closing time, as physical verification formalities will be minimal,” it added.

Assuring that the Aadhaar number or details will not be retained locally, the SSC said: “It will only be used for real-time authentication as per UIDAI’s prescribed standards.”
