Tamil Nadu man arrested for stealing mobiles, laptops from medical colleges

Nagpur: A 25-year-old Tamil Nadu resident who had allegedly committed thefts in hospitals and medical colleges in several cities was arrested in Nagpur on Wednesday. Tamilselvan Kannan targeted doctors and medical students and stole electronic gadgets like mobile phones and laptops, said a local police official.

He was wanted in theft cases reported at hospitals and medical colleges in Delhi, Bangalore, Mysore and other metro cities in the country, the official added.

He had allegedly stolen a mobile phone of a doctor at the Government Medical College and Hospital here in 2020 and a case had been registered against him at Ajni police station.

On Wednesday, he arrived at the Nagpur railway station by train and visited the boy's hostel at the GMC&H. But the security guards suspected his movements and detained him. Police recovered a stolen iPad worth Rs 50,000 from his possession, allegedly stolen from a medical college in Mysore, the official said.

Kannan allegedly stole gadgets and other valuables of doctors when they were busy at hospitals. He also stole laptops from hostels of medical students, the police official said. Further probe was on.
