Tamil Nadu UG Admissions 2026: Registration portal reopens June 1; 1.26 lakh seats on offer

Tamil Nadu Arts and Science College admissions reopen June 1; over 2.24 lakh applications received so far.
The Tamil Nadu government has reopened the application portal for undergraduate admissions to Government Arts and Science Colleges. Students who were unable to register earlier can apply from June 1, 2026. Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan said the decision was taken to accommodate students who missed the earlier application window. Admissions for the 2026–27 academic session are being conducted through the Tamil Nadu Government Arts and Science Colleges Admission (TNGASA) portal. Students can apply for courses offered by Government Arts and Science Colleges across the state based on their preferences.

A total of 1,26,959 seats are available across 159 undergraduate courses in 181 Government Arts and Science Colleges in Tamil Nadu. Of these, 1,01,022 seats are available under Shift I and 25,937 seats under Shift II. So far, 2,24,034 applications have been received through the online portal.
"Applications for first-year undergraduate admissions for the academic year 2026–27 in Government Arts and Science Colleges across Tamil Nadu have been invited through the website tngasa.in since May 7, 2026," the press release said. The release further stated, "For students who are unable to apply online on their own, arrangements have been made to facilitate applications through Admission Facilitation Centres (AFCs) functioning in all Government Arts and Science Colleges."
To assist students facing difficulties with the online application process, AFCs have been set up across the state to help candidates submit their applications. Candidates seeking assistance regarding admissions, application submission or course selection may contact the Directorate of Collegiate Education's help centre on 044-24343106 or 044-24342911.

Amid uncertainty surrounding National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET UG and delays in medical admissions, Tamil Nadu engineering admissions have witnessed a surge, with registrations crossing 2.5 lakh. According to officials from the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), applications under Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) crossed the mark within 26 days of registration and are expected to reach three lakh. Officials attributed the rise partly to medical aspirants opting for engineering courses. The last date to register is June 2.
Tamil Nadu has around 2.5 lakh engineering seats across more than 400 colleges affiliated with Anna University.
