Telangana reserves 85% MBBS, BDS category B seats in private medical colleges for local students

NEW DELHI: The Telangana government has announced 85 percent reservation for local students in private in minority and non-minority private medical colleges. The state government issued an order on Thursday with regard to the amendment in MBBS, BDS admission 2022 in Telangana medical colleges.

The remaining 15 percent of the seats in the private medical college will be open for medical aspirants across the country, the order said.

The Department of Health has issued an order amending the admissions rules so that 85% of the 35% of seats allotted in MBBS, BDS category-B seats in minority and non-minority medical colleges will be allotted to Telangana students.

With this, an additional 1,068 MBBS seats in all 24 private medical colleges in the state will be available to Telangana students, as per the official statement.

Of the total 24 private medical colleges in Telangana, 20 are non-minority and 4 minority private medical colleges. There are 3,750 seats available in these colleges. Of the total 3,200 seats in non-minority colleges, 35 percent, 1,120 seats, are under category B. Till now, students of all states were eligible for admission in category B. However, as per the latest amendment, 85% seats, that is 952 seats out of 35% seats in category B will be reserved exclusively for Telangana students. Only 168 seats will be open for other state students.

On the other hand, there are 137 seats under 25% category B in minority colleges. Of this, 116 seats will now go to the students of Telangana.

Saying that it was unfair to local students as there was no special reservation for Telangana students in management quota seats, the state government said that the decision was taken to increase opportunities for local students who wish to study medical courses.
