CETE at TISS releases OERs in English, Hindi, Telugu, Assamese and other Indian languages, along with a guidebook on creating and sharing open educational resources.
The Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education (CETE), School of Education, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has released 50 Open Educational Resources (OERs) for teachers and teacher educators. The resources are available in English, Hindi, Telugu, Assamese and other Indian languages, and cover subjects and areas related to teaching, learning and educational practice.
The resources have been developed through more than a decade of CETE's research, field engagement and learning from initiatives focused on the professional development of teachers and teacher educators. The OER collection includes resources on teaching English, mathematics, science and social sciences.
The resources are designed to be used, adapted, translated and shared in different educational contexts, according to the information provided by CETE.
Along with the 50 OERs, CETE has also released “OER A Guidebook”, which introduces educators to the principles and practices of finding, using, adapting, creating and sharing OERs responsibly.
TISS OERs to support access to educational resources
Delivering the keynote address, Badri Narayan Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor, TISS, highlighted the potential of OERs to address inequalities in access to quality educational materials.
He said, “The creation of OERs underscores the role of TISS in not just knowledge transmission but also creation of knowledge resources. These OERs will be especially beneficial for educators in remote and rural areas. It will help in enhancing their capacities. Technology helps democratise resources and in that sense, OERs can have a transformational impact on the society.”
Tiwari also encouraged wider dissemination of the OERs through higher education institutions and professional networks. He also acknowledged the intellectual and creative work involved in developing the resources.
CETE releases OER guidebook
P. Gopinath, Dean, School of Education, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the initiative in the school's continuing work in teacher education and professional development.
He said, “Effective integration of technology with pedagogy can play a crucial role in not just improving the quality of education for students but also teacher educators. In that sense, the OERs launched today will be beneficial to everyone involved in the process of learning and imparting knowledge.”
The OER A Guidebook is intended to help educators understand how to find, use, adapt, create and share Open Educational Resources responsibly.
Anusha Ramanathan from CETE appealed to participants to not only access and share the resources but also translate them, while giving attribution to CETE as their original creator.

TISS OER initiative and Tata Trusts support
The initiative has received support from Tata Trusts, which has enabled CETE's work in teacher professional development, educational technology and open education.
The latest release marks a move from creating resources for specific programmes towards opening, curating and sharing resources as part of a wider educational common.
CETE said the release of the 50 OERs represents both a consolidation of its work over the past decade and an invitation to teachers, teacher educators and institutions to use, adapt and build upon the resources.
