TNAU conducts state-level awareness training for farmers, KVK scientists

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University: Around 500 farmers and KVK scientists participated in the awareness training programme.
NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s (TNAU) Department of Crop Physiology organised a one-day State level Farmers Awareness Programme on August 31, 2023. The programme aimed to impart awareness about “Nutrient deficiencies and remedies for agricultural and horticultural crops.
Around 500 farmers and KVK scientists from the Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Salem and Dharmapuri districts participated in the awareness training. The Awareness training programme was inaugurated by V Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, Coimbatore.

Geethalakshmi emphasised the importance of balanced nutrition for maximising crop growth and production. She also stressed the significance of farmers becoming knowledgeable about the functions each nutrient plays in crop growth and development in order to address the problem of nutrient insufficiency.
MK Kalarani, Director (Crop Management), TNAU, Coimbatore highlighted the significance of a balanced diet for achieving global food security. She mentioned the ill effects of mono-cropping, imbalanced fertilizer application on crop and soil health.
She also explained about the advantages of this programme for farmers and how farmers may harvest high yields and profits by implementing simple, scientific nutrient management techniques.
S Srinivasan, Professor and Head, Department of Crop Physiology and Biochemistry highlighted the nutrient deficiency symptoms in Horticultural crops of Tamil Nadu and their management strategies.
Following the technical lectures, interaction session between scientists and farmers was conducted. During this session, farmers asked a various questions and concerns about nutrient deficiencies and toxicities in crops, and the scientists responded with appropriate solutions.
