After the TNEA counselling 2026 round 1 allotment result, the number of vacant seats were 1,56,762, whereas the number dropped to 1,06,583 after round 2 allotment list, as per the reports.

The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Chennai has completed two rounds of counselling for the TN Engineering admissions 2026, filling 74,658 seats so far. As many as 1,06,583 BTech seats remained vacant after the completion of TNEA counselling round 2, as per media reports.

There were a total of 1,81,436 engineering seats under the general TNEA counselling 2026.
After the TNEA counselling 2026 round 1 allotment result, the number of vacant seats were 1,56,762, whereas the number fell to 1,06,583 after round 2 allotment list, as per the reports.
Around 50,179 seats were filled between the two rounds, the reports read.

As per the official counselling schedule, the TNEA counselling 2026 round 3 choice filling ended on August 19.
The TNEA Counselling 2026 round 3 seat allotment results 2026 will be declared tomorrow, August 21 for admission to engineering programmes at various government and private colleges across the state.
Those who will be allotted BTech seats will have to confirm their allotment by August 22, 2026.
Furthermore, only 41.15% of seats have been filled after the round 2 counselling. Notably, this data is five percentage points lower than the 46.34% that stood at the same stage in 2025, one of the reports said.
As per the counselling consultant, around 45,000 seats could remain vacant after the final round, the report read.
Over 90,000 students took part in the TNEA round 2 counselling, including those from round 1 who selected fresh choice option, it added. Moreover, 49,984 engineering seats were allotted in the TNEA round 2 counselling, of which 614 took part in the first round, it said.
In addition, 25 students had cut-off scores above 190 from round 1 counselling, it added.
Some of the participating colleges include Anna University, Annamalai University Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University College of Engineering Villupuram, Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering, Bhajarang Engineering College, R.M.D. Engineering College, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Science and Technology, among others.
