The UGC warned students to "not take admission” in the “self-styled” Daksha University as it may compromised their careers.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has included Daksha University (Vocational and Life Skill Education) to its UGC list of fake universities. The decision came after the commission learnt that the university was awarded degrees in violation of UGC Act, 1956.
The Daksha University, established at Bhaskar Path, New Pundag, Masibari Ranchi, Jharkhand, has been included in the UGC’s list of fake universities.
“It is informed that Daksha University (Vocational and Life Skill Education) is neither recognized by UGC under Section 2(f)/ Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 nor approved by AICTE/NCVET and any other statutory body. Hence, it is not entitled to award any degree/diploma. Any degree/diploma awarded by this institute so far is not valid for Higher Education/ Government employment purposes,” according to the UGC’s official statement.
The commission has also warned students, parents, and the public to “not take admission” in the “self-styled” Daksha University. It continued to say that admission in such universities may compromise the career of the students.
Recently, the UGC published a state-wise list of 32 fake universities across India. As per the official list, Delhi hosts the most number of fake universities with 12 institutions listed. Uttar Pradesh was on the second spot with four institutions, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and West Bengal with two fake colleges each.
As per the UGC Act, 1956, degrees can be awarded only by universities established through a Central Act, State Act, or Provisional Act, or by institutions specifically empowered to confer degrees.
