UGC has extended the period for completing master’s degree for students who qualified December 2018 and June 2019 NET.
NEW DELHI: University Grants Commission (UGC) has extended the last date for completing master’s degree or equivalent course for candidates who stood qualified in National Eligibility Test (NET) held in December 2018 and June 2019.
The deadline for completion of master’s degree for December 2018 UGC-NET candidates has been extended to June 30, 2022. Whereas, the June 2019 UGC-NET students can finish their degree by December 31, 2022, as per a notice issued by the UGC .
The UGC took this decision in favour of some students who had qualified the December 2018 and June 2019 UGC-NET or JOINT CSIR-UGC test for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) under the UGC scheme, but could not complete their master’s degree as universities delayed conducting exams or declaration of results due to COVID-19 situation.

However, such students are considered eligible for JRF or Assistant Professor only when they have passed their qualifying examinations with the requisite percentage of marks within two years from the date of the NET result.
