UGC fellowships, research grants schemes registration ends on October 10

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited online applications for fellowships and research grants schemes. A total of three fellowships and two research grants schemes application process will end on October 10, 2022. Eligible candidates are required to register before the UGC fellowship deadline.

The three UGC fellowships are Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child, Dr S Radhakrishnan Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and Fellowship for Superannuated Faculty Members. The two research grants schemes are Dr DS Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members and Research Grant for In-Service Faculty Members.

The application process for UGC fellowships 2022 and research grants started on September 5, 2022. The commission has also announced the eligibility and guidelines to apply online on the official website, ugc.ac.in. Eligibility for the UGC fellowships are given below.

UGC Fellowships 2022

Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child - Any single girl child of her parents pursuing PhD in any stream/subject in recognised universities.

  • The scheme is applicable to such a single girl child who has registered herself in a regular, full-time PhD programme.
  • Admission to PhD courses in open, part-time and distance mode is not covered under the scheme.
  • Girl students up to the age of 40 years for general category and 45 years for the reserved categories i.e. SC/ST/OBC and PWD (Persons with Disabilities) as on the last date of submission of online application are eligible.
  • Both the scholar receiving the fellowship and the institution concerned, where the scholar is pursuing her PhD are responsible to ensure eligibility.

Dr S Radhakrishnan Post-Doctoral Fellowship - Only the unemployed candidates who have been awarded the PhD degree in the relevant subject of sciences, engineering and technology, humanities and social sciences including languages are eligible to apply.

  • Candidates should be below 35 years of age. There shall be age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy Layer)/Women/PWD (Persons with Disabilities) and Transgender for 5 years.
  • If a selected candidate is availing any other fellowship, remuneration, they will have to resign from the same before accepting the UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship.
  • Those candidates who have already availed any kind of Post-Doctoral Fellowship from UGC need not apply under the scheme.
  • General category candidates having minimum 55% of marks or equivalent percentage converted from CGPA score at postgraduate level are eligible to apply. A relaxation of 5% of marks is allowed for reserved categories.

Fellowship for Superannuated Faculty Members - Faculty members at the level of professors and associate professors, who are going to superannuate within six months or already superannuated, from universities, deemed to be universities, state and central universities and institutions of national importance.

  • Age limit is up to 67 years.
  • The applicant must have successfully supervised the PhD dissertations of 10 full time candidates, 3 of whom having received their degrees during the preceding 10 years.
  • The applicant must have handled, as principal investigator, at least 3 sponsored research projects funded by national / international agencies.
  • The applicant shall not hold any administrative responsibility during tenure of the fellowship which would be from the date of superannuation.

UGC research grants scheme

Dr DS Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members - Faculty members regularly appointed and working in recognised institutions are eligible to apply.

  • All teachers who are newly appointed at the level of assistant professor against permanent posts in university shall be eligible.
  • The assistant professor should possess PhD degree with minimum five research papers to his / her credit, published in journals of international repute.
  • They should apply for the grant within a period of two years from the date of joining the post in the Department / University.

Research Grant for In-Service Faculty Members - Faculty members regularly appointed and working in recognised institutions are eligible to apply.

  • Faculty up to 50 years old can apply.
  • Applicants should have a minimum 10 years of service left in the University from the date of submission of application.
  • They must have successfully supervised PhD dissertation of 5 full-time candidates.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed at least 2 sponsored research projects funded by national, international government or private agencies.
