NEW DELHI : The National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2022 exam was held “peacefully” after being stopped due to chaos at a centre in Jaipur and a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the people who tried to disrupt the exam. NTA was replying to a video going viral on social media in which students were seen taking exam amidst chaos at Nitin Girls Senior Secondary School (NGSSS), Jaipur. NTA also informed that a committee has been formed to find facts and until its report, the centre will not be used for conduct of exam.
In an official statement, NTA explained the factual position in the matter and said that UGC NET began “a bit late” at 9:15 am at the school for 174 candidates who were appearing for the exam. However, the exam was disrupted at 9:30am by some “unscrupulous elements”. According to NTA, those people snapped electricity supply of some of the rooms at the centre as a result of which the exam had to be stopped and police had to be called. An additional observer also reached the spot to examine the situation.
NTA said that the exam started again at 11:15am and all the candidates were given full three hours to write the test. While some second shift candidates opted to appear in the same centre, NTA arranged for the exam of some candidates at other centres in Jaipur “seeing the sensitivity of the situation”. The testing agency also arranged for buses for candidates to reach to other centres from this centre.
The testing agency further informed that forensic analysis of the answers submitted by candidates who took exam at the centre will be done before declaration of UGC NET results. “Also, an FIR is being filed against the miscreants who tried to disrupt the examination. A committee, including cyber security expert, has also been deputed by the NTA to ascertain the other attendant facts. Meanwhile, till the time the report of the committee is received, the centre in question will not be used for any examination,” NTA said in the official statement. “It is to reiterate that NTA stands committed to highest standards of professionalism in conduct of the exams,” it added.
