MoS Education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh to inaugurate 3 new hostels in Jamia Millia Islamia

NEW DELHI: Union minister of state (MoS) for education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh will be visiting Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on July 9 to inaugurate three newly constructed hostels.

During his visit on Sunday, the minister will also lay the foundation stone of Jamia International Hostel. The three new hostels are named Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Hall, Sir AM Khwaja Hostel and Dr BR Ambedkar Hostel.

JMI vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar will preside over the function and will welcome the minister at Mir Anis Hall of the university. “The program will start at 11.00 am at Mir Anis Hall, administrative block, JMI on 9th July, 2023. After his address to the audience, Dr. Singh will lay the foundation stone of Jamia International Hostel and will proceed to the three newly constructed hostels for the inauguration,” the official statement read.

In March-end, the education ministry had asked the university to submit a basic concept note comprising details of expenditure, projection of the students and faculty strength.

In this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings-2023, JMI was ranked 128th; moving up 32 places. As per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2023) released by the ministry of education, Jamia Millia Islamia retained third place this year as well under the university category.
