UP extends closure of all schools, colleges till January 23 due to rising COVID-19 cases

Lucknow: Following a rise in COVID-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday extended the closure of all schools and colleges in the state till January 23. However, online classes will continue, a statement said. In the statement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that in view of changing circumstances and rising COVID-19 cases, all schools and colleges have been ordered to remain closed till January 23.

Adityanath also said that the night curfew from 10 pm to 6 pm should be strictly implemented, the statement said. Schools in Varanasi are also closed till January 23, 2022. However, it has been informed that the schools will continue online classes for the students.

Meanwhile, the chief minister today reviewed the Covid-19 situation in the state and ordered the authorities to strictly follow Covid-19 guidelines for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test (UPTET 2021). The UPTET 2021 exam is scheduled to be held on January 23.

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s office informed that in the last 24 hours, 2,16,152 Covid-19 tests were taken, in which 15,622 new Covid-positives were found. At present, the total number of active cases is 1,06,616, out of which 1,02,211 people are under treatment at home.

On December 30, Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad announced winter vacation for primary and junior high school from December 31 to January 15, 2022. Later, the Uttar Pradesh government on January 4 ordered closure of all schools up to Class 10 till January 15.
