UP TGT 2026: The revised provision applies to candidates enrolled in B.Ed., B.El.Ed., or equivalent courses before July 29, 2011.
The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has revised the eligibility criteria for Assistant Teacher (Trained Graduate Grade) recruitment, exempting certain candidates from the minimum graduation marks requirement.
In a notification dated November 4, 2026, the UPESSC said candidates admitted to Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) or equivalent courses before July 29, 2011, will not be required to meet the minimum percentage criteria at the graduation level.
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the inclusion of a proviso in the eligibility conditions. This aligns UP state regulations with National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines. The relaxation will apply to Assistant Teacher vacancies in government-recognised and aided secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh.

UP Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2026: What the revised rule says
The exemption applies specifically to candidates who enrolled in B.Ed., B.El.Ed. or equivalent teacher education programmes before July 29, 2011. Such candidates shall not be disqualified for failing to meet the prescribed minimum graduation marks requirement.
This change is linked to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) notification issued on November 13, 2019, which amended the notification dated August 23, 2010. The revised provision was subsequently addressed in the notification issued by the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education on October 22.
The commission has asked candidates who are eligible under the revised criteria to apply within the prescribed application deadline. The notification does not imply any change to the existing last date for submission of applications. Candidates applying should check the official recruitment notification and eligibility conditions before submitting their applications.
