NEW DELHI: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will conduct the civil services exam (CSE) for the preliminary stage on October 10, 2021. Candidates appearing in the UPSC IAS prelims exam 2021 must know about the mistakes that need to be avoided on the CSE exam day. Those who will appear for the UPSC CSE 2021 prelims exam, must know how to answer the questions since the entrance test is conducted in offline mode. Also they must be aware about the SOP related to COVID 19. Non-compliance with the guidelines might lead to cancellation of candidature.

Candidates who have successfully downloaded UPSC IAS admit card 2021 will only be able to appear in the exam. Along with the admit card they will have to carry one government issued photo ID proof. It is essential to check all guidelines that need to be followed to avoid mistakes on IAS exam day. Along with the general exam day instructions, COVID-19 SOPs will also have to be followed to combat the spread of the deadly virus.

UPSC IAS mistakes to avoid on the exam day

  • As the exam will be conducted on OMR-sheet based offline mode, aspirants are advised to mark the answers carefully, as there will be no options to undo the mistake.

  • The IAS prelims paper consists of 2 papers and both carry negative marking of one third (0.33) assigned to that particular question. If the candidate answers more than one answer, that too will be treated as a wrong answer, hence, they must avoid such mistakes and answer the questions carefully.

  • Candidates must not use any other colour pen apart from a black ball point one to mark the answers in the OMR sheets.

  • While filling details in the IAS prelims OMR answer sheet especially in roll number and test booklet series code, aspirants must not make any mistake/discrepancy, if such a situation happens, their answer sheet might get rejected.

  • Aspirants must not write their name or any other information on the CSE preliminary exam OMR answer sheet for rough work or any other purpose. They must also not fold or damage the OMR answer sheet.

  • Candidates must avoid use of mobile phones even in switched off mode, or carry any electronic equipment, or bluetooth devices inside the exam hall. If found with possession of the same, strict action might be taken against them.

  • Candidates must not forget to wear mask, carry hand sanitizer to the exam centre. It is a mandatory norm these days to stay safe from COVID-19.

The UPSC CSE is India's top exam which is conducted to fill in Class 1, gazetted posts in various administrative services in India. There are a total of 23 services for which the UPSC CSE exam will be conducted like Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Forest Service etc. The preliminary exam will be followed by the mains exam which will be conducted in descriptive mode. The UPSC CSE mains exam is scheduled to be held on January 7, 8, 9, 15, 16, 2021.
