UPSC reschedules the principal and vice-principal recruitment test for 828 posts in Delhi government schools.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the Combined Recruitment Test (CRT) for the recruitment of principals and vice-principals in the Delhi government's Education Department. The examination, earlier scheduled for November 1, 2026, will now be held on January 9, 2027, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
According to a corrigendum issued by UPSC, the examination covers 124 vacancies for principal posts and 704 vacancies for vice-principal posts in the Education Department of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). The UPSC principal recruitment was notified under Advertisement No. 51/2026.
The UPSC principal recruitment postponement follows a request from the Government School Teachers Association (GSTA), Delhi, which sought additional preparation time for eligible teachers amid their teaching, administrative and Booth Level Officer (BLO) duties, according to the association's general secretary, Ajay Veer Yadav.
UPSC Principal Recruitment 2026: Exam postponed after GSTA request
Yadav said many government school teachers and vice-principals in Delhi were performing Booth Level Officer (BLO) duties under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), alongside their regular teaching and administrative responsibilities. He said these additional duties had left them with limited time to prepare for the competitive examination.
He added that the UPSC recruitment for the principal and vice-principal posts was an important opportunity for eligible teachers seeking promotion and selection to higher positions. The association had written to UPSC requesting that the examination be postponed to give candidates more time to prepare.
Welcoming the decision, Yadav said the revised UPSC principal and vice principal recruitment 2026 examination date would give thousands of eligible teachers a better opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. He also said the move would support equal opportunities and fair competition in the selection process.
The GSTA general secretary thanked newspapers, editors and journalists for highlighting the teachers' concerns and bringing the issue to the attention of the authorities.
