Uttar Pradesh: 26 students face breathing issues after inhaling smoke near school, discharged

KUSHINAGAR: At least 26 school children complained of breathing difficulties allegedly after inhaling toxic smoke from burning dry leaves and garbage near a school here, officials said on Friday. All children were taken to the Community Health Centre in Sevarhi where they were given treatment and later discharged after their health improved.

The incident occurred near Greenland Public School in the Tamkuhiraj tehsil area.

Authorities said the smoke, which arose due to the burning of dry waste and leaves in an adjacent plot, possibly intensified and spread into the school premises, causing discomfort and respiratory distress among students.

Following complaints of uneasiness and breathing problems, the affected children were rushed to CHC.

11 children referred for observation

Doctors administered primary treatment and later discharged all of them. As a precautionary measure, 11 children were referred to the Kushinagar Medical College for further observation, where they were also reported to be stable and subsequently discharged.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Akanksha Mishra reached the CHC and supervised the treatment arrangements. District Magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar, Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar, and health department officials visited the CHC, the school, and the medical college to assess the situation.

"All the children are healthy and have been sent home," the District Magistrate said, adding that the situation is under control.
