Uttar Pradesh medical colleges named after freedom fighters, saints

The National Medical Commission has given nod to Uttar Pradesh government to start nine new medical colleges in the state.

NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an order naming four new medical colleges in the state after saints and sages, Principal Secretary of medical education Alok Kumar announced on social media.

“Four Govt Medical Colleges christened by CMOfficeUP, Siddharthnagar : Madhav Prasad Tripathi Medical College (MC), Bijnor : Mahatma Vidur MC, Chandouli : Baba Keenaram MC, Fatehpur : Amar Shaheed Jodha Singh Ataiya Thakur Dariyawn Singh MC,” Alok Kumar said in a social media post.

Principal secretary announced that colleges in Bijnor, Fatehpur, Chandauli and Siddharth Nagar have been named after saints.

While the college in Bijnor will be named as Mahatma Vidur medical College, that in Fatehpur will be called Amar Shaheed Jodha Singh Ataiya Thakur Dariyawn Singh Medical College.

Chandauli medical college will be called Baba Keenaram Medical College whereas the college in Siddharth Nagar has been named as Madhav Prasad Tripathi Medical College.

Uttar Pradesh has received NMC’s permission to start nine new medical colleges in Etah, Deoria, Siddharth Nagar, Pratapgarh, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Fatehpur, and Mirzapur districts.

According to an English Lokmat report, the Deoria college will be named after Maharishi Devrah Baba and Ghazipur college will be named after Maharishi Vishwamitra.

The Mirzapur medical college will be called Maa Vindhyavasini Medical College and colleges in Pratapgarh and Etah have been named after Dr Sonelal Patel and Veerangana Avanti Bai Lodhi, respectively, the report further said.

The admission to these medical colleges will be conducted through NEET 2021 scores whose result is yet to be declared by NTA.
