Following the court order, the WBJEEB chairperson Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee has confirmed Careers360 that the WBJEE result 2025 has been postponed. After prolonged delay due to the legal proceeding over the OBC reservation, the board had announced that it will declare the West Bengal JEE results on August 7.
However, today, Justice Kausik Chanda has initiated contempt proceedings after receiving a complaint from candidates on his email, flagging concerns over the admission proceedings despite a court order prohibiting further steps.
Justice Chanda expressed “surprise and concern” at the manner in which the State has acted in the violation of an order dated May 22, 2024, passed by the division bench in Amal Chandra Das v. State of West Bengal, which had not been stayed by the Supreme Court.
The court has summoned the principal secretary, higher education department, to appear online at 10:30 am tomorrow, August 7, to clarify the State's position. Meanwhile, all admission-related activities, including counselling, have been put on hold until further orders.
Following the court’s decision, the WBJEE result has been postponed till further orders.
WBJEE is conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) for admission to engineering, pharmacy, and architecture courses. The delay in result announcement has affected the admission and council process across the state, leaving the universities worried about loosing meritorious students to other states.
Meanwhile, West Bengal students awaiting WBJEE results are left in limbo.
