BJP government removes nominated members from education boards and recruitment bodies; uncertainty emerges ahead of HS results
The BJP-led West Bengal government on Monday ordered the immediate removal of nominated presidents, chairpersons and members serving in several education boards, recruitment bodies and public sector organisations across the state. As per a report by Telegraph , the decision was reportedly taken during the first cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Suvendu Adhikari.
The action includes the termination of appointments in key educational institutions such as the School Service Commission, school education boards and higher secondary councils. Telegraph reported that a circular issued by a senior special secretary directed all departments to take “necessary action to immediately terminate the tenures” of nominated members and office bearers in various boards and non statutory bodies.
The report further stated that the government has also initiated steps to discontinue the services of several officials working beyond the retirement age on extension or re-employment arrangements.
West Bengal Boards : Major Reshuffle
Several of those removed are expected to rejoin their previous academic institutions and government services. The Telegraph report mentioned that Ramanuj Ganguly, who headed the ad hoc committee of the state secondary education board, is likely to return to West Bengal State University as a professor. Other officials, including board and council office bearers, are also expected to resume duties at colleges and universities where they were previously employed.
The reshuffle comes just days before the publication of higher secondary examination results, creating uncertainty over official documentation. As per the Telegraph report, education authorities have sought clarification regarding marksheets already carrying the signatures of recently removed officials.

Reacting to the move, BJP teachers’ cell co-convener Pintu Paruy told Telegraph , “We are happy that the government has heeded our demand.” He alleged that several nominated office bearers had implemented controversial policies under the previous Mamata Banerjee administration and were linked to irregularities.
