West Bengal schools, colleges closed till April 22 due to severe heat wave: Mamata Banerjee

NEW DELHI: Schools and colleges in West Bengal have been ordered to shut down in view of the severe heat wave conditions in the state. As per PTI , announcing the closure, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said all schools, colleges in West Bengal will be closed from Monday to Saturday next week due to severe heatwave conditions.
Meanwhile, the summer vacation in West Bengal government-run and aided schools have also been bright forward. The summer vacation will begin from May 2 instead of the earlier schedule of May 24 in the wake of sweltering heat across the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department, heat wave conditions will persist in West Bengal during this period.

Above 40 degrees Celsius temperatures today were recorded on West Bengal towns including in Asansol, Baharampur, Barasat, Bardhaman, Kolkata, Bhatpara and Barrackpore, the Met office data said.
The Odisha government has announced to close all government and private schools up to Class 10 and anganwadis in the state for five days starting from today, April 12 to April 16 in view of the heat wave. “In view of intense heat wave condition, Anganwadis centres and all schools (both govt and private) up to STD 10th will remain closed from 12th April to 16th April, 2023,” said the Information and Public Relations Department in a tweet.
