10,000 J-K, Ladakh students apply for PM Scholarship in four days: AICTE

AICTE announced online registration for PMSSS for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh students on September 6. The last date to apply is September 15.
NEW DELHI: Around 10,000 students have applied in four days for the Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh for taking admission in undergraduate courses outside J-K, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) said in a statement.
AICTE began online registration for the Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh students on September 6. The last date to apply for a scholarship is September 15.
As per the scheme, the students who are studying online from Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh are provided with Rs 20,000 per semester or Rs 40,000 per year.

Along with that, those students who stay in hostels, which are subject to a maximum ceiling of Rs. 1,00,000 per year, are given Rs 40,000 as well as Rs 10,000 for monthly expenses.
PM Special Scholarship Scheme
According to AICTE, last year 23,000 students had registered for the scholarship and over 4,300 students were enrolled in different colleges and universities across the country.
“During the last eight years more than 20,000 students of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have benefited and completed their successful educational career at the undergraduate level. The students have either started a successful professional career or have gone for higher studies in India or aboard,” said the AICTE statement.

Through the scheme, the students of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are able to take undergraduate admissions in various programmes such as science and technology, medicine, arts and commerce, architecture, hotel management, and category technology, as per the AICTE statement.
Only those students who have passed Class 12 from Jammu and Kashmir board or CBSE board in Jammu in the 2019-20, 2020-21 academic years can apply for the PM scholarship scheme, AICTE had informed.
Recently, AICTE also issued a warning notice against fake admissions being done under the scheme by some individuals posing as officials of AICTE.
