THANE: At least 29 children were rescued from an unauthorised hostel run by an organisation in Maharashtra's Thane district following a complaint about abuse, an official said on Saturday. The police on Friday rescued 20 girls and nine boys from Pasaydan Vikas Sanstha, a residential institution in Khadavli and registered a case against five persons under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a release by the district administration stated.
The Child Helpline received a complaint on Thursday that children were being beaten up and sexually abused in the institution. Collector Ashok Shingare said, "The safety and welfare of children has always been the administration's priority. Strict action will be taken against the culprits."
