NEW DELHI: Three alumni of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) -- Amit Kumar Bhardwaj, Mohmmad Kashif and Areeb Ahmad -- were part of ISRO's Chandrayaan 3 team that made India the first country to successfully complete a landing on Moon’s south pole. The university expressed pride and congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the success.
Bhardwaj, Kashif and Ahmad completed BTech from the mechanical engineering department, faculty of engineering and technology, JMI in 2019. They had cleared ISRO’s Centralised Recruitment Board 2019 Exam for the post of the scientist. Kashif had secured the first position in the exam.

JMI vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar said, “I take this opportunity to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the success of the mission. It is an occasion of national celebration and we are happier particularly to know that our students were also part of this historical mission. I congratulate them for the success and wish them good luck for their future endeavours. The JMI fraternity is proud of them.”
Akhtar also added that Bhardwaj, Kashif and Ahmad have become role models and current students will be motivated to work for taking the country to greater heights.
The JMI had yesterday made arrangements at several spots on its campus for live streaming the soft landing of Vikram lander of Chandrayaan 3. The teachers and students gathered at the faculty of engineering auditorium and other venues of the university cheered as the Chandrayan 3 landed on the moon.
