5G will take education system to next level: PM Narendra Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the recently launched 5G telecom service will take the education system to the next level in the country. The prime minister was speaking after launching the Gujarat government's Mission Schools of Excellence initiative at Adalaj town in Gandhinagar district.

This initiative includes building 50,000 classrooms, 1.5 lakh smart classrooms, 5,000 Atal Tinkering labs and 20,000 computer labs across Gujarat in the next four-years. The first phase of school infrastructure worth over RS 5,567 crore will begin after the launch today.

The upcoming 14,500 PM Schools for Rising India (SHRI) will become model schools for the implementation of the new national education policy (NEP). "The new National Education Policy is an attempt to free the country from the mentality of slavery and promote talent and innovation.” the prime minister explained.

He also recalled the bad state of education in the state where 20 out of 100 children would never go to school. Out of the ones that did receive an education most dropped out of school after class 8. Modi lauded the Gujarat government for its progress in the education sector in the last two decades.

"The 5G service will go beyond smart facilities, smart classrooms and well as smart teachings. It will take our education system to the next level," the prime minister said while highlighting the capabilities of the 5G technology.

He pointed out that knowledge of English was considered as the mark of being intellectual even though the English language is just a medium of communication back in the day. He also advocated the use of local languages to make sure those uncomfortable with English are not left behind. Prime minister also added "Earlier, knowledge of the English language was considered a mark of being intellectual. In reality, the English language is just a medium of communication,"

“Till now Gujarat is recognized for trade and business, it is for manufacturing. But in the 21st century, Gujarat is developing as a knowledge hub of the country, as an innovation hub. I am sure that the Mission Schools of Excellence will elevate this spirit.”, the prime minister concluded.

The event was telecasted live via BISAG TV and multiple social media platforms, millions had access to the broadcast.
