NEW DELHI, JUNE 13:
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has directed six technical institutions from Karnataka to close down as they lacked proper infrastructure, less admission in various courses and had poor facilities for students.
The colleges asked to close down include four from Bengaluru, one each from Gulbarga and Kolar district. The colleges are Mount Carmel Institute of Management, RS College of Management and Science, Nandi Institute of Technology, Institute for Technology and Management, Appa Institute of Engineering and Technology and Smt. Danamma Channabasavaiah College for Management Studies.
The Council has de-recognised nearly 800 technical institutions all over the country and they have been refrained from admitting students for batches beginning the upcoming academic year (2018-19). The students who are currently enrolled in these institutions have been allowed to continue till their course gets completed.
Among the 800 colleges, maximum are from the state of Tamil Nadu, as many as 150 institutes from the state have been asked to close down.
Last year the AICTE announced to shut down about 800 engineering colleges from the 2018-19 academic year. As per the AICTE colleges with less than 30 percent admission in past five years will either have to shut down or get merged with a nearby college.
