ANRF selects 10 institutions for Convergence Research Centres of Excellence; IITs, NITs, IIMs on list

IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, NIT Agartala, and IIM Jammu are among the institutes selected for interdisciplinary research centres in AI, rural development, archaeology, and social issues
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has selected 10 institutions across India for setting up Convergence Research Centres of Excellence (CoEs) to promote interdisciplinary research and develop solutions for complex societal challenges.
The programme follows the National Education Policy ( NEP ) 2020 and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. It focuses on multidisciplinary education, innovation, and research. The initiative aims to integrate social sciences, humanities, science and technology through collaborative and transdisciplinary research.
According to the PIB statement, the programme received 945 proposals from academic and research institutions across the country.
The selected centres will work in areas such as archaeology and traditional knowledge systems, digital humanities, rural development, health and psychology, emerging technologies for social issues, and computational economics.
ANRF selects 10 research CoEs
ANRF said the centres will involve collaborations among IITs, NITs, universities, colleges and research institutions. A total of 20 collaborating institutes are part of the selected projects.

The ANRF said the programme encourages institutions to work together across different fields and sectors. The selected centres include partnerships among state universities, central universities, IITs , NITs , private universities, and recognised research and development institutions.
The initiative aims to solve regional and national problems through research-based solutions. It combines scientific innovation with social and cultural understanding.
The ANRF said that new technologies like artificial intelligence , robotics, and big data analytics can create new opportunities for social and economic development and help support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
