Bar Council of India resolves for CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the LLB (Honours) degree issued to Sanjeev Nasiar by Devi Ahilyabai Vishvavidyalaya.
NEW DELHI : The Bar Council of India (BCI) has removed the Bar Council of Delhi vice chairman Sanjeev Nasiar following allegations of irregularities in his LLB (Honours) degree issued by Devi Ahilyabai Vishvavidyalaya. The decision has been taken following an inquiry conducted by a sub-committee which found the authenticity of his degree “highly questionable”.
In a meeting held on December 7, BCI resolved to take immediate and decisive action in the matter. The council constituted a committee in response to the directions of Delhi High Court.
The panel’s inquiry revealed significant discrepancies in Nasiar's academic records. An inspection of the P M B Gujarati Arts and Law College, Indore, showed that the college was not authorized to offer the LLB (Honours) course during the relevant period.

Moreover, the academic records presented to the sub-committee appeared to be tampered with, as they displayed uniform handwriting and ink consistency over an extended period. Additionally, it was determined that the LLB (Hons) programme, introduced under BCI regulations in 2008, could not have been issued in 1988, as claimed by the degree in question.

The university officials' non-cooperation and obstructive behavior during the inquiry further raised doubts about the authenticity of the degree, the council said.
BCI has also resolved to request the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct an investigation into the originality of Nasiar’s degree. "The report dated 25.10.2024 of the Sub-Committee regarding enquiry of the LLB (Hons) Degree of Mr. Sanjeev Nasiar is hereby adopted. The Bar Council of India is conscientious to uphold the prestige and honour of the legal profession and remains resolute in its resolve to uphold its sanctity to ensure that only those meeting ing the the highest standards of ethics and qualifications are permitted to practice law in India,” said Srimanto Sen, BCI secretary.
