The winners of CBSE National Games will participate in SGFI National School Games every year from 2024-25 onwards.
NEW DELHI: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) got affiliation with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), marking a significant collaboration in the realm of school sports and athletics. This partnership aims to enhance the participation of CBSE-affiliated schools in various sporting events and competitions organised by SGFI at regional, state, national, and even international levels.
SGFI promotes sports among school children across India. By aligning with SGFI, CBSE aims to provide more opportunities for its students to engage in competitive sports, fostering a holistic development that goes beyond academics.
The initiative aims to promote physical fitness, sportsmanship, and teamwork among students, complementing their academic pursuits.
Through this affiliation, CBSE-affiliated schools will be encouraged to actively participate in a diverse range of sports such as athletics, football, basketball, cricket, swimming, and more, under the auspices of SGFI. This partnership is expected to not only identify and nurture sporting talent at the grassroots level but also provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills on a larger stage.
Sports in holistic education
Moreover, the affiliation with SGFI is likely to encourage schools to prioritise sports infrastructure and coaching facilities, thereby fostering a culture of sports excellence within the CBSE ecosystem. It also aligns with global trends that emphasize the importance of sports in holistic education, promoting physical and mental well-being among students.
The affiliation between CBSE and SGFI represents a proactive step towards promoting sports culture and excellence in Indian schools. It is anticipated to create a more robust framework for nurturing young sporting talent and fostering a generation of well-rounded individuals equipped with both academic and athletic skills.
