NEW DELHI: Ministers, leaders, school and college students are observing Constitution Day with pledges to uphold the spiral of the Indian Constitution.
The Constitution was formally adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, but the celebration of November 26 as ‘Constitution Day’ began in 2015 when the ministry of social justice and empowerment notified the government’s decision to mark that day as ‘Samvidhan Divas’ and ‘National Law Day’. The Constitution of India came into force from January 26, 1950, a day celebrated as Republic Day ever since.
On Thursday, the ministry of education spread awareness about Constitution Day through posts on its social media channels. Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ tweeted: “Preamble is the guiding spirit of our Constitution and the country. On this Constitution Day, let us all take a pledge to live by the principles laid down in the preamble.” President Ram Nath Kovind read the preamble to the Constitution in a live telecast.
This is what various leaders said about the Constitution of India and Constitution Day and how it was celebrated in educational institutions.
