Coronavirus: After DU and IIT Delhi, JNU cancels classes till March 31

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi has suspended all lectures, examinations and acitvities till March 31. This was to control the spread of COVID-19, the diseased caused by the novel coronavirus.
The JNU Vice-Chancellor, M Jagadesh Kumar said on social media: "In view of Coronavirus (COVID-19), JNU has decided to suspend all lectures, class presenations and examinations until 31 March 2020. All JNU residents are requesting to follow the COVID-19 guidelines issued earlier." By Friday, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infections in India had risen to 75 and the country had seen its first death, in Karnataka. The number of cases from Delhi is six. The World Health Organisation, or WHO, has declared a coronavirus pandemic.

The notice, issued by the registrar, Pramod Kumar, on March 13 also added: "Conducting any event such as seminars/conferences/workshops etc., in the campus during this period that require gathering of people should be postponed." JNU had earlier issued a set of instructions as well.
This decision come after the Delhi Government announced its was shutting all schools , colleges and cinema halls in the city on Thursday, March 12. On Friday, the government also imposed a ban on all sporting events, including cricket matches that are part of the Indian Premier League, or IPL.
By Thursday evening, as Delhi colleges closed, Delhi University announced it was moving its classes, assessments and evaluation online. Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, IIT Delhi , suspended all classes as well and did much of what JNU has proposed.
