Coronavirus: Delhi University shuts for students and staff

NEW DELHI:
As the coronavirus pandemic tightens its grip on India, the Health and Family Welfare Department, National Capital Territory of Delhi has issued an office order directing Delhi University to remain closed till March 31, 2020.
Staff and students have to work from home and must be available on phone and other electronic media of communication when required. Also, they must be available to report at the office, if required for any exigency of work.
The essential and emergency services will continue to function as usual.
The Delhi University registrar issued an office order late on Thursday night.
Students to vacate
The students living in hostels have been advised to leave for their hometowns as soon as possible for their own safety. International students may take the decisions that suit their best interests.
Delhi Government has shut down all educational institutions and postponed and rescheduled all examinations till after March 31, 2020.
Classes were suspended in DU on March 12 and the administration instruction colleges and departments to deliver lessons online. Some days later, DU authorities allowed even teachers to work from home but had not explicitly asked students to vacate which they have now done.
Cases of the coronavirus infection have been reported from at least 20 states and territories and are increasing every day. Currently, Delhi has 17 confirmed cases with one death. India has seen a total of 195 “active” cases and four deaths.
On Wednesday night, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, or MHRD , directed all regulatory bodies and examination boards under it to postpone all exams and evaluation work till after March 31. Following which, the University Grants Commission, too directed universities follow those instructions and reschedule all exams.
