COVID-19: Delhi Govt earmarks Rs 54.9 lakh for sanitisation in schools

Delhi Government is using Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan funds for 2020-21 for “sanitisation and other measures” for COVID-19 safety measures.
NEW DELHI : The Delhi Government, in a circular issued last week, announced that it will release a total of Rs 54.9 lakh to schools under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) for “sanitisation” and “”self defence training. Under the SSA, 610 schools will receive Rs 9,000 each for this purpose.
SSA scheme is the largest educational scheme in the country which is funded by both the central and state governments. The SSA scheme allocates funds for different purposes including mid-day meal and self-defence training.
The government said that a three-member committee under the principal in each school will be formed to ensure proper utilisation of funds. The funds are earmarked for inspection and identification of areas within school premises, sweeping and flushing, sanitizing, procuring disinfectant, sanitizer and dispenser.
Delhi was one of the first territories in India to shut schools in 2020. It reopened them for Classes 10 and 12 on January 18 and for Classes 9 and 11 on February 5. The Delhi Government issued elaborate guidelines on reopening schools from Classes 9 to 12 which included parental consent and mandatory social distancing.
