COVID-19: Pune schools, colleges to reopen from February 1; School timings, guidelines

NEW DELHI: The Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday announced that the Pune schools, colleges will reopen on February 1. The decision was taken at a Covid-19 review meeting, ANI reported. Classes 1 to 8 will have half a day but Classes 9 and 10 will have the usual school timing.
Maharashtra deputy chief minister said, “For Classes 1 to 8, the school timings will be half of the regular timings, but for Classes 9 to 10, the school will run as per the regular schedule. Colleges will also function as per regular time,” as per the report.
Ajit Pawar further said that consent from parents will be required to attend offline classes. He also said that the decision about half a day for Classes 1 to 8 will be reviewed in the next meeting, the report added.

College students who have received both the Covid-19 vaccinations will be allowed to attend physical classes.
Ajit Pawar on January 4 said that the administration has decided to shut schools for Classes 1 to 8 in Pune district till January 30 due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. Maharashtra school resumed offline classes on January 24. The decision to resume offline classes was taken after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray approved a proposal sent to him by the school education department. However, parents are divided on sending their children to school.
The Mumbai local civic body had also earlier announced the closure of schools for Classes 1 to 9 till January 31.
