NEW DELHI: The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revoke Central University Common Entrance Test (CUET 2022) stating that it is disadvantageous to Tamil Nadu students. Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) director general Vineet Joshi told Careers360 that the CUET 2022 registration will begin tonight at cuet.samarth.ac.in.

In a letter to PM Modi, the chief minister wrote, “CUET based on NCERT syllabus will sideline our diverse school education systems; favour mushrooming of coaching centres; place students from our state in a disadvantageous position.”

Calling the new admission policy for undergraduate (UG) admission “regressive and undesirable step”, MK Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw CUET.

“This regressive step has clearly vindicated the consistent stand of our government, which is based on the consensus across sections in Tamil Nadu that the introduction of NEET for MBBS was not an isolated instance but a definitive prelude to the larger attempt of the Union Government to centralise Higher Education admissions,” he wrote in the letter.

Comparing CUET 2022 to NEET, MK Stalin said, “There is no doubt that this CUET, similar to NEET will sideline the diverse school education systems across the country and grossly undermine the relevance of overall development of long form learning in schools," an excerpt from Stalin's letter to PM Modi read.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M Jagadesh Kumar had announced that the CUET scores are mandatory for UG admission in central universities. He also said that the state, private and deemed-to-be universities can also use CUET score for UG admissions.
