NEW DELHI: Amid a rise in Covid-19 cases and Omicron fear in Delhi, the government issued a yellow alert and imposed a mild lockdown. As a first step, the Delhi schools were closed with immediate effect. As per the latest Delhi school news, primary classes up to Class 5 will have winter break from January 15, 2021.
Earlier, the Delhi government announced a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am and as the air quality in the national capital remained ‘severe’, Delhi schools were not reopened for Class 5 and above. However, the Delhi government gave permission for reopening schools for Class 6 and above from December 18, a few schools decided to resume offline classes for students after January 3, 2022.
On December 28, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority said that the schools in Delhi will be shut with immediate effect as the state saw a spike in Omicron variant of Covid-19 cases.
According to the Delhi government’s official notice, “All the heads of Sarvodaya Vidyalayas are informed that the winter break for pre-primary and primary classes shall be observed from January 1-15 and online/offline teaching-learning activities through worksheets shall not be conducted during this period.”
As per the latest news, India has recorded 781 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 21 states and Union Territories so far out of which 241 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. Delhi recorded the maximum number of 238 cases followed by Maharashtra at 167, Gujarat 73, Kerala 65 and Telangana 62. With 9,195 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day.
