DU Direct PhD Admissions 2026: Registration opens for FYUP students; apply by September 6

The University of Delhi (UoD) has opened registration for admission to its PhD programmes for the academic year 2026-27. Students completing their four-year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) can apply for the direct PhD admissions through the official website at pgportal.uod.ac.in.

Recently, the Delhi University stated that it had received over 12,000 applications from nearly 35,943 FYUP students for admission to its one-year postgraduate programmes.

This was after it introduced a one-time direct admission passage to PhD programmes for students who have completed four-year UG programmes in 2026.

DU Admissions 2026: Eligibility for direct PhD

The direct admissions will allow candidates to pursue a PhD without completing a master’s degree first, the university said earlier.

Eligible candidates can apply for FYUP programmes at DU colleges by September 6.

According to the eligibility criteria, only students who have completed a four-year UG programme from DU or its affiliated colleges are eligible to apply for the direct PhD admissions.

Notably, UR, OBC and EWS candidates should have at least 7.5 CGPA to be eligible for direct PhD admissions.

DU PhD registration fee, FYUP credit system

Others belonging to SC, ST, and PwBD categories should have to score a minimum of 7.0 CGPA to be eligible. The selection process will include a test, held by the concerned department or university.

Unreserved (UR), Other Backward Classes - Non Creamy Layer (OBC NCL), Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category candidates should have to pay Rs 250 as DU FYUP registration charges.

Those belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category, the FYUP registration fee is Rs 100.

In July this year, the university announced revised credits for the 4-year students under the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022 from the academic year 2026-27.

As per the revised credit system, four credits will be added to the dissertation, academic project, and entrepreneurship track, increasing the total to 10 credits from the existing six.
