Following a controversy over inclusion of ‘Muslim’ under mother tongue in the DU UG application form 2025, the University of Delhi has publicly apologised for the ‘inadvertent error' and promised to address and fix such errors. Regretting the ‘unintentional’ incident, the university requested not to assume that the mistake was committed on purpose and urged not to disrupt the academic environment.

In the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) UG 2025 application form for undergraduate admissions, ‘Muslim’ was listed under the mother tongue section and Urdu language was absent. Abha Dev Habib, Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) general secretary, pointed out the error in a social media post, calling the university ‘Islamophobic’.

DU later said that the error has been fixed and called it an oversight, after facing widespread criticism online. DU UG admission 2025 is underway on the CSAS admission portal on ugadmission.uod.ac.in to fill over 71,000 seats.

“The University of Delhi sincerely regrets the inadvertent error in its admission form. We acknowledge your concerns and are committed to addressing them. However, attributing ulterior motives to this entirely unintentional oversight is unwarranted. We request all, not to vitiate the university’s diverse and harmonious environment,” said DU in a formal apology and clarification on X.

46,366 candidates have registered by June 19 for Delhi University UG admissions 2025. The university will be offering UG seats based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) 2025. Delhi University UG admissions 2025 are being organised in two phases for a total of 71,624 seats offered in 60 colleges. Starting this year, the university will use Class 10 marks for breaking ties in case two students secured the same marks.
