Education ministry conducts FLNAT 2024 today; over 37 lakhs participate

NEW DELHI: The Education ministry’s department of school education and literacy (DoSEL) conducted the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) 2024 today, March 17. The assessment is conducted to evaluate the foundational literacy and numeracy skills of enrolled non-literate learners.

Candidates who qualify the assessment will receive a certificate issued by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), recognising their achievement in acquiring foundational literacy and numeracy skills. As per the official press release, the FLNAT 2024 is conducted across 23 states and over 37 lakh learners are expected to participate.

The FLNAT 2024 assessment comprises three subjects including reading, writing, and numeracy. Each section of the FLNAT 2024 assessment test carries 50 marks, totalling 150 marks. The candidates are required to score a minimum of 50% marks in each section to qualify the FLNAT 2024 assessment test. The duration of FLNAT 2024 is two hours, and students have the flexibility to write it between 10 am and 5 pm.

The FLNAT 2024 test will be conducted in the regional language of the learners, in line with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This nationwide assessment is part of the ULLAS - Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram programme. This time, some Union Territories (UTs) including Chandigarh, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Goa are aiming to achieve 100% literacy through FLNAT.

In 2023, two FLNATs were conducted, in March and September. As per the official press release, more than 17,39,097 learners appeared in the FLNAT 2023 conducted on September 24. Out of this, 15,58,696 learners qualified the assessment test. A total of 36,00,870 learners have been certified through this programme.
