NEW DELHI, FEB 28: Dr. Sanjay Gupta has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of World University of Design (WUD), Sonipat. Prof Gupta is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad and has served as UNDP fellow at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York.
Dr. Gupta is a seasoned academician, who has led and championed the cause of design education in the country for the past 30 years. With his unique vision and passion for integrated education, he has successfully bridged the gap between design, art and technology education in the country by designing curricula that meet the current as well as future demands of the design space.
On being appointed as the VC, Dr. Sanjay Gupta said, “I feel honored to be appointed as the founding Vice Chancellor of WUD and would like to thank the management for providing me this opportunity to create from scratch, an institute of excellence in the emerging segment of design education in India.
WUD will bring in a fresh perspective on the way creative programs are taught and practiced in the country by treating design as a transdisciplinary process in which methods of scientific, technical and artistic investigation are combined with an understanding of human and functional needs to modify and affect almost any aspect of the environment. As VC of WUD, I aspire to make WUD the “go – to” destination for design education in South East Asia”.
Prior to joining WUD, he established the Textile Design Department, introduced Masters & Doctoral degree programs, and spearheaded the setting up of various NIFT centers around the country in his capacity as Dean (Academic) at National Institute of Fashion Technology. He was involved in the key initiative of establishing the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI), an umbrella organization of fashion schools worldwide. Subsequently, he founded the School of Design at GD Goenka University, Gurgaon.
