Hindu College Admission Row: DUTA member seeks withdrawal of teachers’ show-cause notices, demands probe

Udaibir Singh, general secretary of Indian National Teachers' Congress (INTEC) and a former Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) executive member, has demanded the withdrawal of show-cause notices issued to Hindu College teachers and called for an independent inquiry into alleged administrative and financial irregularities at the college.

In a statement, Singh said the notices issued by the Hindu College Governing Body against three teachers, including the president and secretary of the Hindu College Staff Association (HCSA), should be withdrawn immediately.

“The show-cause notices issued by the Governing Body of Hindu College against three teachers, including the President and Secretary of the Hindu College Staff Association, must be withdrawn immediately,” Singh said.

The demand comes amid an ongoing HCSA protest over alleged irregularities in the college's Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) admissions and other administrative matters.

Hindu College teachers' show-cause notices

Recent reports have confirmed show-cause notices to Associate Professors Ratan Lal and P K Vijayan. The notices reportedly accuse them of gross misconduct, indiscipline and insubordination and seek their explanations before any disciplinary action is considered.

The Governing Body objected to remarks made by Ratan Lal in connection with the HCSA's August 18 no-confidence motion against Principal Anju Srivastava. Lal had raised concerns over alleged procedural violations and admission irregularities.

DU Beat, however, reported that notices were issued to three faculty members, including HCSA President Ratan Lal, Secretary Shankar Kumar and P K Vijayan.

Dispute over sports, ECA admissions

The controversy began after the first round of admissions for the 2026-27 academic session. The HCSA alleged that an excessive number of sports and ECA quota seats were allocated to B.Com (Hons) and BA (Hons) Political Science.

The association claimed that 17 of 48 Sports and ECA seats went to B.Com (Hons), while 15 went to BA (Hons) Political Science, alleging this exceeded the university's prescribed limit for supernumerary admissions.

Delhi University attributed the skewed allocation to an error in its admission algorithm. Principal Anju Srivastava has also denied direct involvement, saying admissions were conducted through the university's central admission process.

DUTA member demands inquiry

Singh urged DUTA to support the teachers and called for an independent, impartial and High Court-monitored inquiry into the alleged administrative and financial irregularities.

“We also demand an independent, impartial and High Court-monitored inquiry into the alleged administrative and financial irregularities in the college,” Singh said.

The HCSA had earlier passed a no-confidence motion against the principal and has continued its protest on the college campus. Teachers and students have also joined the agitation.
