NEW DELHI: The Old Students Association of Delhi University’s Hindu College is setting up a “pandemic study grant” fund for students of the college facing economic hardship due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The Hindu College OSA will help students belong to families whose annual income is under Rs 5 lakh. The association will provide a one-time study grant up to Rs 20,000 to cover the annual fee.
Over the past month, a number of Delhi University colleges have taken steps to assist students who may be struggling to pay tuition or exam fees or failing to join online classes because they don’t have the necessary devices.
Students and alumni at St. Stephen's College set up a 'Resilience Fund' to support the tuition fees of the students facing financial constraints due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The college administration has also invited applications for a “limited number of college bursaries”.
The Lady Shri Ram College, too, set up support systems and altered its hostel policy after a student, facing severe financial strain due to the pandemic, died by suicide in Telangana.
For the Hindu College grant, students can send their applications, along with family income certificates, to Mahesh Rawat at the Hindu College or write to him at maheshrawathinducollege@gmail.com, says the statement issued by the OSA.
Association president Ravi Burman also said that in the long-term, the alumni are planning a “OSA - Principal P.C.Verma Study Grant Fund’ which will disburse annual college fees to select needy students every year”.
The association is also collecting donations for the fund. Burman appealed to the alumni to contribute to this fund by sending a cheque in favour of ‘Old Students Association, Hindu College’ or by making the donation online to the alumni portal of Hindu college.
