Hyderabad University signs pact with Ananth Technologies for research on tunable microwave devices

NEW DELHI: University of Hyderabad (UoH) has signed an agreement with Ananth Technologies for promoting research of tunable microwave devices and sensors. The Hyderabad-based company is working in the space and strategic sector.

A team of University of Hyderabad, led by James Raju, have developed a laser-based process to reduce the crystallisation temperature of ferroelectric thin films from 750 to 250 degrees centigrade. The process helps in reaching at a temperature that makes the ferroelectric thin films compatible with polymer substrates, which are widely used in industry, the university said.

The project was funded by the Institute of Eminence of UoH. Ananth Tech also contributed with a matching grant, it said.

The process enables some of the devices made with these films, which are frequency agile, compatible with the microwave integrated circuits. This provides the devices novel functionalities, it added.

UoH vice-chancellor BJ Rao said: “It is time that universities become less dependent on the government for research funding.” He lauded the efforts of Pavuluri Subba Rao of Ananth Technologies in “coming out of ISRO 30 years back and getting into such a visionary entrepreneurial venture which is flourishing now”.

Subba Rao said, “India is a country where 120 crore people live on their own entrepreneurial efforts whether it is by being a farmer or a tech startup.”

The agreement signing ceremony was attended by the UoH registrar Devesh Nigam; chairman of the agreement committee Sivakumar; research and development coordinator Samrat L Sabat; IoE director M Ghanshyam Krishna; and UoH public relation officer Ashish Jacob Thomas.
