IGNOU launches PG diploma in mental health; MSc Psychology, nursing, BSc Ayush graduates eligible
IGNOU's PGDMH course can be completed in one year by paying a fee of Rs 9,000.

NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU) School of Social Sciences (SOSS) has introduced the Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health (PGDMH). This programme is open to individuals with a master's degree in psychology, social work, and nursing, a bachelor's degree in dental surgery, and medical graduates from diverse fields, including allopathy, ayurveda, unani, siddha, homeopathy, yoga, and naturopathy.
IGNOU's PG diploma in mental health is a one-year course offered only in English. The total fee for this programme is Rs 9,000, with an additional registration fee of Rs 300. Admissions are available twice a year, in July and January.
The PGDMH programme at IGNOU aims to fulfil the urgent need for mental health professionals in India. This programme focuses on capacity building and training professionals in both mental and physical healthcare to meet community needs. The course also offers flexible learning through an open and distance format, allowing students to study at their own pace.
The course covers various aspects of mental health, including fundamentals, disorders, special areas, services, and an internship. This programme is designed to provide a robust foundation in mental health, addressing the increasing demand for mental health services.
This IGNOU programme is supported by various regional and study centres across India, including Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Ranchi, Nagpur, Noida, Jabalpur, Varanasi, and Patna. Some notable centres include Montfort College in Bangalore, Lady Hardinge Medical College in Delhi, and Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Nagpur.
