IIM Mumbai will graduate its first MBA batch on April 11, marking its transition from NITIE.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai will graduate its first Master of Business Administration (MBA) batch on April 11. This graduation marks the institute’s transition from the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) to an IIM.
The 2026 cohort is the first to complete the MBA programme introduced after the change in status.
According to the institute, the batch completed its academic programme during a period of institutional transition, as IIM Mumbai aligned its curriculum and structure with the broader IIM system. Students in this cohort experienced the shift from NITIE’s previous academic framework to the new MBA-focused structure.
IIM Mumbai: First MBA batch marks transition phase
IIM Mumbai said in a press release that the MBA course combines its earlier focus on industrial engineering and operations with the management education followed in other IIMs.
The two-year MBA course is designed to keep the institute’s past strengths while also following a standard management curriculum.
Director Manoj Tiwari said the graduating batch has been part of a period of change for the institute. “The batch of 2026 has seen both continuity and change during a pivotal time in our journey. We wish them the best of luck as they enter the realm of management since they will be crucial in establishing and upholding our educational ideals,” he said.
Adding that the institute is working towards strengthening its academic profile and institutional role, he said, “We continue to concentrate on developing as an organization that fosters the development of next generations and significantly raises India's profile internationally.”
The IIM Mumbai press release noted that the graduation of its first MBA batch marks the completion of the institute’s initial phase of transition into the IIM ecosystem.
