IIT BHU: Dev Goswami graduated in 1974 from the mechanical engineering department. His contribution will support the construction of ‘Dev & Vardhana Goswami Lecture Hall Complex,' improving students' learning experience.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi has received a contribution of $1.6 million from alumnus member Dev Goswami. Graduated in 1974 from the department of mechanical engineering, Goswami’s donation will support the construction of the ‘Dev & Vardhana Goswami Lecture Hall Complex’ to improve students' learning environment and academic infrastructure.
According to the official IIT BHU statement, the complex was formally inaugurated by Goswami and his wife, Vardhana Goswami, marking a momentous occasion in the history of IIT BHU.
The IIT BHU lecture hall complex is designed to meet needs of undergraduate (UG), postgraduate(PG), and doctoral students. The lecture hall featured three floors of modern classrooms and collaborative learning spaces, accommodating up to 1,850 students. The hall includes smart boards, high-speed Wi-Fi, group study areas, acoustic optimization, and ergonomic seating, improving the student learning experience at IIT BHU.
Speaking about the initiative, Hiralal Pramanik the dean of resources and alumni, said that the new lecture hall complex is more than just an infrastructure project — “It is a bold investment in the future of education at IIT (BHU). We are deeply grateful to Goswami for his visionary support and longstanding commitment to giving back,” the IIT BHU statement said.
“The dean further informed that the gift marks a major milestone for the Institute’s fundraising initiatives, pushing the total donations received by the IIT BHU Foundation past the $10 million mark. The contribution also reflects the growing momentum of alumni engagement worldwide, committed to propelling IIT BHU to greater heights,” the IIT BHU statement added.
