IIT BHU launches AICTE-sponsored certificate course in IoT and smart manufacturing for faculty upskilling

The smart manufacturing and IoT certification course will upskill 36 faculty members from nine states, will include training from IIT BHU and guest lectures.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) launched a certification programme on Internet of Things (IoT) and smart manufacturing for the upskilling of faculty members from technical institutions.

The IoT and smart manufacturing course will be delivered by eight members of the IIT BHU faculty and will include practical training in an IoT lab - developed by a partnership with FITAS Robotics and Embedded Systems Pvt. Ltd. The programme will also involve guest lectures from industry leaders.

The IoT certification programme is sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under its Quality Improvement Programme (QIP). It is organised by the Precision Engineering Hub (PEH) at IIT BHU.

IIT BHU faculty training course

It was inaugurated with 36 faculty members from nine states and union territories, with 25 of these participants holding Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in subjects like mechanical, electrical and electronics engineering. GM Karthik, programme coordinator, noted how the course will empower India’s faculty to bring modern technological education to their students and institutions.

The faculty training inauguration at IIT BHU was attended by NK Mukhopadhyay, acting director of IIT BHU, as the chief guest. Tapash Kumar Nandy, director of DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE), was present as the guest of honour. Faculty members present alongside Karthik included Santosh Kumar, PEH coordinator and Sandeep Kumar, head of the department of mechanical engineering.

Importance of IoT certification course

Mokhopadhyay emphasised the importance of equipping educators with practical knowledge through the IIT BHU certificate course. He called it a vital step in enhancing India’s capabilities in ‘Industry 4.0’ and advanced manufacturing.

Nandy talked about academia-industry interaction and cooperation, encouraging participants of the programme to align their teaching with national priorities in materials innovation and strategic technology development.

The inauguration ceremony was brought to a close with a networking event among participants and other faculty members present.
