IIT Delhi master's student dies of cardiac arrest in classroom

An IIT Delhi master's student, KK Premdeep collapsed in class after suffering a cardia arrest. He was declared dead by the hospital on March 27, 2023.

Download NowNEW DELHI: A master's student at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), KK Premdeep suffered from a cardiac arrest during class. He was rushed to the hospital within minutes however, he was declared 'brought dead' at 6:25 PM on March 27, 2023. The cause of death was the apparent lack of pulse or heartbeat.

The deceased student was a resident of Shivalik hostel and was a student at IIT Delhi's department of energy science and engineering. IIT Delhi announced the news and has asked students to seek help to cope from the incident, if required. An official email to the students from the institute said, "All I can suggest at this point is that any one of you need assistance in coping up with this sudden and inexplicable loss of a member of our community, please reach out to the counselling services."

This news has come to light after the death of a PhD student , Sachin Kumar Jain from IIT Madras yesterday. The reason of death of the IITM student is said to be suicide. Commenting on the tragedy, APPSC IIT Bombay said in a tweet, "3rd suicide in @iitmadras in the last 2 months. How many more will have to die before these institutes understand and take responsibility for the structural issues. We demand the resignation of the director of IIT Madras. IITs are becoming graveyards for students."
The rising numbers of deaths in the top institutions of India has become a topic of distress among student and education circles. As per data shared by the ministry of education, a Over 60 student suicide cases have been reported from IITs, NITs and IIMs in the last 5 years.
