NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has been acknowledged as a "GATI Achiever" by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

The IIT Delhi is recognized for promoting gender equality in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through the Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI) programme.

As part of the GATI programme, IIT Delhi conducted an extensive self-assessment, leading to the formulation of comprehensive action plans to bridge the gender gap and address the challenges women encounter in STEM fields.

The GATI pilot programme was launched in collaboration with the British Council. The programme aims to encourage higher education and research institutions to strive for gender equity in STEM disciplines.

The initiatives by IIT Delhi include recruitment and retention of women faculty members at the departmental level, organizing gender sensitization workshops, and implementing family-friendly policies that will fulfill the diverse needs of its academic community. IIT Delhi will also create an inclusive and accessible infrastructure to foster an environment for all students and faculty members.

Angelie Multani, dean of diversity and inclusion at IIT Delhi said, "IIT Delhi is spearheading various initiatives to increase the representation of women and other marginalized categories among its students and faculty members.

“This award reaffirms our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated and all voices are heard" the dean, diversity and inclusion, at IIT Delhi further added.

The DST appreciated IIT Delhi for its role in bringing positive change and inspiring others to create an inclusive ecosystem that empowers women to flourish in the STEM fields.
